Synopsis:
King Odysseus was the Trojan-horse-building genius in Homer’s epic poem, The Iliad. He was the legendary lost king of the Ithacans who wandered the earth for two decades in The Odyssey. Scholars have long wondered whether Homer’s Odysseus is merely a fiction, or whether he was a flesh and-blood man.
In 1873, German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann claimed he’d discovered the remains of ancient Troy. The world of Homer’s epics suddenly seemed tangible. But his search for Odysseus and his Mycenaean Kingdom of Ithaca proved fruitless. As hopes of finding it died, so did the idea that Homer wrote about real events and real people. But now, at last, we have a new piece of evidence. One that could turn the legend into history.
The discovery of a tomb by local civil engineer Makis Metaxis in 1991 on the Island of Kefalonia prompts LAZAROS KOLONAS, Honorary Director of Antiquities at the Hellenic Ministry of Culture to excavate the site. Only now are the details of what they found coming to light.
These films tell the story of one man’s struggle to get the truth told and to reveal what could be one of the most significant archaeological finds of the 21st Century. Morgan Freeman is the voice of Odysseus in the films reciting readings from The Illiad.
